Sitter Session? What's that?

I've noticed over the years that photographers, and especially baby photographers, tend to casually use industry specific lingo in everyday conversation with their clients without necessarily realising that others may not understand what on earth they're talking about. We refer to types of sessions by the names we'd use when we chat with other photographers, and sometimes those names don't really click for the parents of our tiny clients without an explanation.  So I thought it might be helpful to explain some of those terms,  starting with one of the session types that I find tends to need the most explanation - Sitters.

"Sitters" is a term baby photographers use to refer to those babies who have mastered sitting up independently but haven't yet started to crawl. It's when we start to be able to really capture their emerging personalities, and I know when I look back at photos from this time of my own kids, it's when I began to see some of the facial expressions and personality traits in them that define their personalities to this day.

It's one of my favourite times to photograph a baby during the first year of their life (after the newborn stage of course) because we can get such amazing photos of them, smiling and interacting with us, but they haven't yet figured out how to run away when they spot something more interesting than the crazy lady making faces and playing games behind the camera!

I love planning out Sitter sessions (also sometimes referred to as Milestone Sessions) and providing a full service experience for my clients. Like with Maternity sessions and Newborn sessions, I have an entire wardrobe of age appropriate prop clothing for both boys and girls, and I love getting the opportunity to pull those adorable outfits out and play dress-up with the little people that come to visit me in the studio, and I'm constantly adding new custom created outfits to it.

If a Sitter Session sounds like something you'd be interested in, I have a special offer for Sitter Sessions during the month of March 2021 - why not contact me by clicking right here? I can't wait to hear from you!
